The REDD+ SES Secretariat participated in the annual meeting of the Governor's Climate and Forests Task Force (GCF) in Barcelona on 15th to 18th June 2015. The REDD+ SES Secretariat participated in the panel on 'Mobilizing Equitable Forest Finance: Benefits to Local Stakeholders' alongside with Forest Trends, he Governing Council of the Network of Mexican Community Forest Farmer Organizations (RED MOCAF), USAID, COICA, the Secretary of Environment of the State of Para in Brazil and Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development. The panelists discussed funding perspectives and opportunities with the European donor community, private sector, and other financial actors to support low emissions development and critical climate and forest work on a jurisdictional scale for GCF states and provinces.
During the GCF annual meeting, the Government of Norway has made a major pledge of USD $25 million to the Governors' Climate and Forests Fund to support innovative rainforest states in their plans to implement the Rio Branco Declaration to reduce deforestation 80% by 2020 and provide opportunities to local communities. Participants also highlighted during panels and discussion the importance of closely involving Indigenous Peoples in REDD+ processes and explored possible partnerships with supply chain actors.
